How does the popular show "Indian Matchmaker" relate to "Go Long"?

The Atlantic recently published an article on how matchmaking is making a comeback in the dating realm. “Indian Matchmaking”, which is on Netflix and has a large viewership, received a mention. I've heard about this show a few times since I started Go Long. These folks are seeing parallels between what the matchmaker does on the show vs. what Go Long is doing for clients.

I debated quite a bit on being known as a “concierge” or a “matchmaker”. I received plenty of feedback on both - positive and negative. I went with a concierge. Go Long is here to match clients up with a service provider that works for their needs. So, sure, I’m a matchmaker.

When I was reading this article, so many parallels came up on why people are choosing a matchmaker as opposed to using a dating app. Obviously you need to have the funds to hire a matchmaker instead of using a more affordable option such as an app. Apps give you agency with you calling all the shots. This also applies to wellness apps.

For example, do you want alerts from your Apple Watch to move more? Or do you want to track metrics in an app at your leisure with zero prompts throughout the day?

What I’m hearing more and more from people is they need to get time back in their days. A matchmaker, if you will, allows someone else to take the wheel. They deal with the filtering (aka interviewing prospective "dates”). Then you have some time back to do things that matter more to you.

Searching for a coach (or dating) is a time consuming activity. If you’re trying to find a coach that is a great fit for you, that takes even more time because you have to know the right questions to ask AND have the time to ask them. And you need to keep your biases out of the analysis. For something as personal as wellness, that's tricky.

Furthermore if you’re using an app (or apps) for your wellness whether it be sleep, stress, fitness and/or nutrition, you’re entering in data hoping it’s going to tell you something profound or insightful. So you have more control, but you spend more time being a slave to the tech. AND…. you’re left guessing if the program you’re using is the right fit for you.

Sounds like some dating apps I have heard about. Fortunately I met the hubs before that all became "a thing".

Many of our clients are people who are very successful professionally and personally. They have navigated some very complex situations with some pretty intimidating characters. “She hasn’t gotten rid of the essential perk [of the matchmaking service]: the gift of not needing to know exactly what you want, because you’re not making decisions alone.”
